With Wings as Eagles
by Ellen Rice
This Bible verse has been important to me for many years. I've studied it and leaned on it often. I was on a mountaintop in Utah one day about a decade ago when a deeper meaning of it was shown to me.
Walking with my aunt and uncle around an immense lake 14,000 feet above sea level, I saw an eagle launch itself from a tall pine on the edge of the trail near me.
He was close enough that I could hear the sound of the wind ruffling through his feathers as he beat his wings and began mounting the sky. But then he stopped beating them, and rather than gliding downward, he rose higher and higher and higher still, carried by an unseen power that I now know is thermal air currents.
As I continued to observe, he soared higher and higher without any more apparent effort, reaching almost unimaginable heights far above another mountain all the way on the other side of the lake.
When we feel as though troubles are insurmountable, when we feel like we just don't have the strength or knowhow to go on, perhaps we could take a lesson from this eagle ~ allow the currents of He who created the wind itself carry us above even our most difficult human struggles.
May the message of this eagle bless you. Now soar!
